Help us Make Refuge at Knoll Farm in 2027
by supporting the Better Selves Fellowship Fund
As a counterbalance in times of division and higher walls, Knoll Farm is practicing how to set a longer table.
2026 marks the 10th anniversary of the Better Selves Fellowships, Knoll Farm’s way of supporting and nurturing individual changemakers by offering a safe harbor for those who anchor others. These fellowships offer a free week of care and support for BIPOC leaders and their allies working for environmental and social change. It’s a chance to rest, replenish, network with others, take risks and go deeper. It propels leaders to go further with the change work that matters most to them and their communities. This fellowship is about restoring and building people power in a time when people power is essential for democracy and the health of our communities.
This summer and fall, we must raise $300,000 to pour everything we possibly can into the Better Selves Fellowships in 2027. Each fellowship, which is entirely free to participants, costs the farm $4,500 to cover travel, food and care for a week, and our goal is to support 70 fellows. We know that this is a big goal, but we are confident in this community to gather together and make our vision of a longer table possible.
One of the most important stories of the Better Selves Fellowships is that they are funded each year by hundreds of households across Vermont, New England, and the United States, who believe in setting a longer table for others. Their support makes another seat possible and sets another plate for someone they may never meet. Whether you can give a plate’s worth, a single spoon, or an entire tureen of soup for a week, every donation has a place at this table. Please take your seat besides us, and donate to the Better Selves Fellowships.
Your donations help us to provide travel expenses, nourishing meals, lodging, and careful curation of a fellowship week that models the way we want the world to be: people caring for people.
Our Better Selves Advisors trust us to bring the benefits of the fellowship deep into their communities. Many are past Better Selves Fellows, most are based in the Northeastern U.S., and all are leaders within their communities.
In 2026, this year’s 55 Better Selves Fellows are climate justice attorneys, midwives and nurses, antiracism educators, somatic healers and union representatives, immigrant farmers of color, fisheries research scientists, climate adaptation specialists, advocates, caretakers, mentors to young people. They are Tribal leaders, people supporting refugees, and organizers for anti-carceral and liberative change; their long work is helping marginalized people access the opportunity that they need. They are strong human beings of all ages, building power and opportunity for others, bringing love and care into social justice. Eight of these fellows this year are in their 20’s, seven are Indigenous leaders, and 80% of this year’s fellows are people of color.
Please support this important and unique work of making refuge for these leaders and others to follow.
