Vermont Wendell Berry Dinner and Young Farmers Celebration
with Vermont Land Trust and NOFA Vermont at Knoll Farm
Cost: A potluck dish
Please join folks from across Vermont who appreciate our land and agriculture for an evening of great food, good cheer, and celebration of several institutions that we care very much about: Vermont Land Trust, Northeast Organic Farming Association of Vermont, and the great poet, essayist Wendell Berry. It’s going to be a fantastic night in the barn celebrating young farmers in Vermont.
Every year on August 5th, we invite neighbors far and wide to fill our barn with good food and good cheer to honor Wendell Berry’s birthday. He’s actually 83 years old this year and spending his birthday on his own farm in Kentucky. But we gather here in the hills of Vermont to celebrate the “re-settling of America” that he has championed for 50 years and which is deeply imbued in the work of both Vermont Land Trust and NOFA-VT.
This year, on next Saturday, August 5th, we will also be honoring young Vermont farmers and all the work that Vermont Land Trust and NOFA-VT has done to make farms accessible to the next generation of farmers. Please join us in celebrating their work.
Here’s your chance to raise a toast to Wendell Berry, Vermont Land Trust and NOFA-VT. Wendell Berry won’t be here ( he wasn’t invited!) because that man ought to be home in Kentucky on his 83rd birthday. Many of those who appreciate him will be around this table on August 5th. Please join us!
The price of entrée is a dish from your own home landscape and a reading of your favorite Wendell Berry poem or essay.
The kitchens at Knoll Farm will be available by 4:30 for those of you who want to come and cook together.
By joining our community, you become part of the story of this land.
