Our Icelandic Yarn, Hand-dyed Lopi

This pure Icelandic single-ply yarn is a little bit heavier than a worsted weight. Icelandic yarns of this weight spun into a single ply are called Light Lopi. When knitted, it has a slight “halo” and creates a very warm, soft garment or blanket. These are generous skeins, and one is plenty to make a hat, mittens, or scarf/cowl.

We harvest the nicest fleeces from our gray and white lambs, get the wool spun at the Green Mountain Spinnery in Putney Vermont and then dye it in small batches at the farm with beautiful dyes. All our dyes are non-toxic and color-fast. The palate is smoky and rich with a consistent tonal range so all these colors blend beautifully together. Slight natural variations are a result of hand-dying and give the yarn a special character.

The Heather colors are dyed over gray wool so have a darker overall tone with heathery flecks of dark wool throughout.

Skeins are 4 oz (115 grams), approx. 295 yards.
