Retreat Staff

Immediately – October 15

+/- 30 hours per week 


The Retreat Staff  play a vital role in hospitality at the Refuge at Knoll Farm, a seasonal retreat center in operation from May 15 to October 15. We host a diverse selection of private retreats each year, as well as special events, our own workshops and The Better Selves Fellowship. 

It is vital to us that we provide the most respectful, thorough and authentic hospitality for everyone who arrives at Knoll Farm. Each season we hire 2-3 retreat staff who play a vital role in keeping groups happy, well fed and well cared for.

Responsibilities include:

  • welcoming and hosting groups, and being a responsible and welcoming presence to everyone who comes
  • making fires, in wood stove and in campfire circles
  • cleaning and tidying communal spaces
  • preparing the dining hall for meals, and helping with meal service and clean-up setting up for special events
  • assisting in the kitchen when needed

Ideal Retreat Staff believe strongly in service to others, love being outdoors in all kinds of weather, have a strong work ethic as well as a strong sense of humor, and have a variety of competencies to draw upon to solve problems and to help others. Must be able to work well independently and collaboratively, respecting differences while working toward shared goals. We also seek candidates who have an approachable demeanor and openness to input from all levels of staff and the general public. Must be sensitive to issues of gender, racial, ethnic and cultural diversity and inclusion.

The exact work schedule is arranged around the retreat calendar, which means that intense work periods are followed by blocks of days off. Typical Retreat Staff shifts are 7am-2pm or 2pm-9pm. The calendar is usually full by March. Nearly all programs begin with dinner the first day and end before lunch the last day.

The position does not include health benefits. Shared housing available.
