The Future of Knoll Farm

This is the official place for all information around the future of Knoll Farm.
We appreciate your care with this process.
Our Plans for the Future
Knoll Farm’s mission has been to nourish people, communities and movements for change. For 75 years, the farm has been a place of refuge: first for people from Central America fleeing civil wars, and then – in the last 25 years – for more than 3,000 activists, organizers, and leaders working for climate and social justice, Indigenous rights and land return, immigration reform and access to land.
Guided by bedrock commitments to regenerative, organic agriculture and making refuge for others, Knoll Farm’s current stewards, Helen Whybrow and Peter Forbes, have consistently re-shaped the human-land relationship through their writing, organizing and lived experience at the farm. In 2027-28, they seek to transition the farm to the next generation of place-makers, at a time of strength and high energy, so that the next generation can continue thoughtful, radical work in service of the human-land relationship.
The Opportunity
Over the next few years, through an open call for proposals, a search committee will select the new stewards of Knoll Farm. The opportunity and invitation to applicants is to receive the gift of Knoll Farm, and to commit to caring for the place, imbuing it with this generation’s best understanding of what is needed in the human-land relationship for the betterment of others.
The committee invites anyone interested to register below to receive the request for proposals. They recognize that strong proposals may take many forms, and encourage collaborative or coalition-based applications. Applicants are also encouraged to indicate in their expression of interest whether they are open to partnering with others.
To be considered, applicants must demonstrate a relationship with a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission includes agriculture, land stewardship, or farming.
Informational Webinar
See below for a webinar recording with Knoll Farm’s Transition Support Lead Jasmine Sudarkasa. Within the recording is a conversation about the background and vision for the upcoming transition at Knoll Farm. The session recording includes:
- A brief overview of Knoll farm and its history
- The details of the transition and its opportunity
- Selection criteria for expressions of interest and final proposals
- Details of the application process including key dates, and
- A Q&A session
This is the first of two informational webinars related to the transition, with the second date and registration to be announced soon.
Interested Applicant Farm Days
Between June and September 2026, all interested applicants are invited to sign up for a half-day visit to Knoll Farm.
During these visits, applicants will be given a tour of the farm, meet members of the search committee, and ask any questions they hold about the application process and/or property. These visits are not intended to be viewed as assessments or interviews, and attendance will not be factored into decisions about finalists. Instead, these visits are offered as an invitation to applicants to walk the land and meet its current stewards.
Upcoming Farm Days:
| June 20, 2026 from 10 am – noon | Farm day #1 |
| July 12, 2026 (Sunday) from 10 am – noon | Farm day #2 |
| August 1, 2026 from 1 pm – 3 pm | Farm day #3 |
| September 13, 2026 (Sunday) from 10 am – noon | Farm day #4 |
To attend, applicants must register at least 24 hours before the event’s start. For capacity reasons, no walk-ins will be allowed. Please register below:
